Job Description
- Supervises and coordinates vessel maintenance and repair works, and makes sure they are completed on time
- Ensures that all vessels’ machinery and equipment are maintained up to required standards and that all necessary records/documentations are up to date
- Assesses the maintenance needs of the vessels as per manufacturer’s requirements, class requirements, and equipment and machineries’ present condition, and accordingly identifies the maintenance works and resources required
- Assists in the planning and execution of the scheduled maintenance, dry dockings, and wet dockings of assigned vessels
- Monitors the implementation of the Maintenance Plan
- Manages the planned maintenance of engine room’s machineries and equipment for assigned vessels
- Manages and organizes repairs carried out by shore based personnel onboard the vessel
- Coordinates all repair squads including Company engineering staff and sub-contractors
- Performs inspections and ensures Vessels’ certifications are up to date and that vessels meet the classification society and flag state requirements
- Authorizes vessels’ requests and ensures timely delivery of spare parts
- Ensures vessels meet regulatory requirements and maintains documentation on an ongoing basis
- Investigates the causes of mechanical, equipment or power system failures; determines the causes of these failures and recommends mitigating actions
- Assists in the investigation of major incidents and leads the investigation team where applicable
- Ensures proper handover between incoming and outgoing Chief Engineers
- Acts as a reliever for the Chief Engineers where needed
- Prepares and safeguards maintenance records and documents for flag state, classification society, and ISM surveys
- Coordinates major overhaul events, including specification preparation, equipment procurement, budgeting and record keeping
- Assists in the familiarization & briefing of incoming crew, mainly the vessels’ senior officers and engineers
- Performs miscellaneous tasks as assigned by his/her direct manager
- Assists in the continual development of the fleet technical policies, standard operating procedures, and safe working procedures
- Is responsible for the development, performance appraisal and succession planning of all direct and indirect reports
Skills
Skills:
1. Strong knowledge of marine engineering principles and practices
2. Proficiency in overseeing maintenance, repair, and operation of marine vessels
3. Ability to conduct inspections and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
4. Excellent problem-solving skills to address technical issues and troubleshoot equipment failures
5. Good project management skills to coordinate with various teams and vendors for repairs and upgrades
6. Strong communication skills to liaise with crew members, port authorities, and external stakeholders
7. Proficient in using relevant software and tools for engineering analysis and reporting
8. Sound understanding of safety protocols and risk management in maritime operations
9. Ability to adapt to dynamic environments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
10. Relevant certifications or licenses related to marine engineering and port operations, if required
11. Minimum of 48 months Sea Experience as Chief Engineer in Offshore Support Vessels (AHTS/PSV)
