Job Description

Principal Accountabilities

  • Maintenance Coordination: Supervises and coordinates all vessel maintenance and repair works to ensure they are completed on time and meet required standards.
  • Technical Oversight: Manages the planned maintenance of engine room machinery and equipment, specifically for high-speed offshore support vessels (FOSSV).
  • Asset Reliability: Assesses maintenance needs based on manufacturer and class requirements to identify necessary resources for machinery reliability and power generation systems.
  • Dry Docking & Repairs: Assists in the planning and execution of scheduled maintenance, dry dockings, and wet dockings.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Performs inspections to ensure vessel certifications are up to date and meet classification society, flag state, and Aramco Marine standards.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Investigates causes of mechanical, equipment, or power system failures and recommends mitigating actions to prevent recurring breakdowns.
  • Personnel Management: Ensures proper handover between incoming and outgoing Chief Engineers and acts as a reliever for Chief Engineers when required.
  • Audit Readiness: Prepares and safeguards maintenance records and documents for flag state, classification society, and ISM surveys.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Safety Culture: Promotes a positive health and safety culture with a focus on building "zero tolerance" for injuries and incidents.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identifies any Health, Safety, or Environmental (HSE) risks and implements measures to mitigate them.

Communications and Working Relationships

  • Strategic Advising: Advises the Vessel Master on strategic decisions related to all technical activities.
  • Liaison: Interfaces with the Port Captain, service providers (repair workshops), and regulatory bodies to ensure efficient fleet operations.
  • Client Interface: Liaises with clients on new guidelines and is present during all client surveys to ensure contract compliance.

Skills

  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Chief Engineer, with a strong preference for candidates with prior sea-going experience as a Chief Engineer (minimum 10 years).
  • Education: Degree in Marine Engineering or equivalent from a recognized maritime academy.
  • Certification: Possession of a valid Chief Engineer unlimited license and a valid Aramco Approval.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep expertise in Power Management Systems, Electrical Load Optimization, and Reliability-Centered Maintenance.
  • Soft Skills: Extensive crisis management skills and the ability to work independently under pressure to meet strict vessel schedules.
  • Language: English fluency is required; Arabic is considered a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • The job of the Port Engineer requires local travel to connect with vessels in the field at Tanajib Port and other KSA terminals.
