Job Purpose:
The Technical Superintendent - Projects is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities related to the safe and efficient docking, major repairs and retrofits. This role ensures compliance with safety regulations, operational protocols, and environmental standards and coordinating with ship crews, port authorities, and other stakeholders.
Principal Accountabilities:
· Docking Operations Management: Plan, supervise, and execute vessel docking and undocking procedures, ensuring timely and safe operations.
· Team Leadership: Manage and train dock workers, assign tasks and ensuring effective communication and teamwork.
· Coordination: Liaise with ship captains, port authorities, pilots, and tugboat operators to coordinate docking activities.
· Equipment Oversight: Inspect and maintain docking equipment, such as fenders, bollards, and mooring lines, to ensure operational readiness.
· Documentation: Maintain accurate records of docking activities, including logs, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
· Problem Resolution: Address operational challenges, such as adverse weather conditions or equipment failures, to minimize delays.
Health & Safety Responsibilities:
· Safety Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations, port safety protocols, and company policies.
· Promote a culture of safety and well-being for all crew members
· Identify and mitigate health, safety, and environmental risks
Communications and Working Relationships:
- Report to Fleet & Technical Manager on technical decisions and activities
- Coordinate with Port Captains, Port Engineers, and Supply Chain Department to ensure timely delivery of spare parts and materials
Skills
Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Degree in Marine Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 10 years of marine experience, with 5 years as Operations Superintendent or Technical Superintendent
- Crisis management, leadership, and communication skills
- Knowledge of ISM, ISPS, and relevant codes
- Computer literacy, including MS Office and ERP (plus)
- English fluency required; Arabic language a plus
- Previous Chief/Port Engineer/Technical Superintendent or Docking Superintendent experience required
Education
Degree in Marine Engineering or equivalent
